Week Three of the Disney Magic

It has been a successful three weeks since I have moved in and it has been such a great time. Here are some recommendations that everyone should do during their stay at Disney.

1. Visit both water parks
2. Eat around the world at Epcot.-Since the Food and Wine Festival has started, my goal is to eat something from each country. So far I have eaten at Australia, Belgium and Japan. Tonight I think I am going to eat at Canada and Germany. Also HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY TO EPCOT and HAPPY 41ST BIRTHDAY TO MAGIC KINGDOM!
3. Attend all the walkthroughs they have of the rides. So far I have gotten to do a behind the scenes of Expedition Everest over at Animal Kingdom.  We got to hike to the very top of the ride and watch a stunning sunrise.

I have not started classes yet and so far I have been living the Disney dream!

One thing to remember when applying is to remember that Disney will work you. This is not a semester long vacation of no work. Each week I have averaged around 41 hours.

Have a magical day or as in my job at Animal Kingdom-JAMBO!

Disney Day 3

I have successfully moved into my apartment (Patterson Court) and here is a run down on what you do when you move in.

Day One- Move In Day

At first I was not for sure on how early to arrive for check-in. Disney says check-in is at 9am, but we started to check-in close to 7:30am.  To be considerate of other cast members who are sleeping before work Disney does not want people to get there before 6:45am.   The first people who arrived came around 1am and they were allowed to stay.  My roommates and me got to check-in (Vista Way Apartments) around 6:30am and there were probably around 40 people ahead of us.  When you check-in you can leave your luggage in your car (if you drove).  If you flew they have a place where you can drop off your luggage.

During check-in there were multiple check points and different stations.

-First Station : They ask for your name and gave you a sticker with your name on it.
-Second Station: They put your name in the system and ask if your mailing address if correct (permanent address) and to verify your phone number.
-Third Station: Sign housing papers stating that you will follow the rules.
-Fourth Station: Picking out your room.  Coming into the program I had 3 other roommates and we wanted a 2 bedroom in Patterson.  They had none available except for one in Vista Way.  We ended up getting a 3 bedroom in Patterson and now I have a total of 5 other roommates. At first I was nervous with finding out who the other 2 girls would be because I met the other girls through a Disney Facebook group.  I am very happy with all my roommates and I am ready to begin the Disney adventure!
-Fifth Station: Apartment ID, they are strict on the Disney Look and some girls were sent to get their hair dyed (including my roommate). One guy had to go to the bathroom and shave (they do provide razors).  CARRY YOUR ID EVERYWHERE
-Sixth Station: A bus will come and take everyone to casting and that is where you will learn about what is acceptable to wear, background check, check your home information, and other things that I can't remember. Casting can take anywhere from 1-4 hours. Luckily for me, it took for around an hour and a half.

After casting you take the bus back to Vista Way and then you can move your items into your apartment.  One thing that I should have done was given my parents my room key so that they could begin moving items in while I was filling out papers.  That will be the only time you can give your parents your key,  giving someone your key (roommate, parent, etc) will result in immediate termination.

Day Two- Housing Meeting

You basically have this day off to do what ever you like. There is a housing meeting that will last for about an hour. My housing meeting was at the Commons Apartment complex (about a 15 minute walk). They talk about the rules of the room, bringing visitors, what will lead to termination, etc.

Day Three- Free Day

This is where I am at right now. I have no meetings and so my day has consisted of: Gym, Pool, Volleyball and Food. :)

12 Days of Packing

It has been a little while since I have made a post, but now that I am in the final days I have decided it would be wise to start packing.   I have started to gather items (maybe a little too many).   Here is a list of what I think I should bring. After I move in, I will make another post about what is actually needed.

So the list begins

- Alarm Clock
- Lamp
- Bedsheets
- Pillow
-Bed Lift
-Egg Crate for bed
-Clothes (I might be packing more clothes than I could possibly wear in 4 months, some may be heading back home on move-in day)

From reading around what past DCP members have mentioned about what is provided in the kitchen. Cups, Utensils, Plates, Bowls are provided.

KITCHEN
- Cutting board
- Wooden Stirring Utensils

Disney Classes

Yesterday morning I was able to schedule a class while I am participating in the Disney College Program.  I chose Environmentality and Sustainability Pilot.  I am very excited about this class and I was planning on staying up all night just to be able to enroll and not have to worry about the class already being filled; I was planning on the class being a very popular choice. The day before enrollment (which is today). I got a message saying classes opened early. Long story short I was able to enroll without a problem and it turns out that the environmental class may not be that popular since there was only one class offering. Whereas, Marketing You had around five class offerings. I was thinking of enrolling into two classes, but talked myself into only taking one. Now I can travel around the park and not be overwhelmed with worrying about homework! With enrolling in class it provides you a time for when the class time is, when the class begins and what day it ends. To my knowledge all of the classes end around December 7th more or less and the earliest I saw was December 3rd, just in time for the Holidays!

Disney recommends that 1-2 classes are taken. Here is a list of the courses and links to the course syllabi. ***All credit is given to Disney with providing a list of the courses***

Disney College Program Apartments

Hello everyone!! My arrival date for the Fall 2012 is September 5th!! It is just around the corner-106 days to be exact.  With the college program you will be living in apartments. There are four apartment complexes: Vista Way, Chatham Square, Patterson Court and The Commons (for international students).

The Commons
-International Students

Vista Way
-Is the oldest complex
-The smallest of the apartments
-Least expensive

Patterson Court
-Newest complex
-No bus stop (you can walk to Chatham) I would not advise waking up late or your going to be running for 10-15 minutes to get to the Chatham lot.
-Most expensive

Chatham Square
-Some rooms have balconies
-Right by Mickey's Retreat (Cast member recreation center)

These can be found around the apartment complexes:
-Computer Lab
-Fitness Center
-Swimming Pool
-Tennis Court
-Volleyball Court
-Laundry Facilities

For the apartments there is a weekly fee of around 82-108 dollars depending on what apartment you are in and how many roommates you have. The more roommates, the less expensive it will be. There is bus transportation provided and if you drive to Disney parking is free. Also each and everyone of the apartments are non-smoking.

If you are under 21 you will be roomed with other people under 21 (to ensure that you are not exposed to alcohol). If your friend is over 21 and you are under 21; you two can still room together, but you will be placed in an under 21 age room. You can have up to 7 roommates and as low as 1 other roommate.

2. Ride any ride with lights on.
3. Eat The Kitchen Sink (maybe with a few friends!) at The Beach Club.

4. Eat something from every country in Epcot.
5. Go underneath Disney in the tunnels.
6. Go to Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.
7. Visit all the hotels.
8. Go to all four parks in one day.

Applying for the Disney Program

I am a little late on posting in the blog but I'm excited to say that I have been accepted in the college program! Last year I applied and was pended but in the end did not receive a spot.  Pended basically means that you are not rejected nor accepted and that they are looking for a spot that would best fit you if one becomes available.

I had the phone interview about two weeks ago and they basically ask questions concerning the role you applied for. My interview started out with just asking simple questions like if I had tattoos and if my hair was dyed or had highlights. Then after that the NUMBER ONE question you should know is "Why do you want to be part of the Disney College Program?"

Since I applied for the QSFB (Quick Service Food & Beverage), they asked me if I had ever had to deal with a difficult customer and what did I do to solve the problem. Other questions that they asked regarding QSFB was...

1. Do you work better in a team or alone?
2. Can you work long demanding hours?
3. Are you capable of lifting boxes?
4. Do you prefer to work at a slow pace or fast pace?
5. Can you be able to stand on your feet all day?

Other things that were talked about during the interview were the descriptions of the other roles that I applied for.

As a note for anyone who is applying for BBB (Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique). The position is very competitive and if you would like to be able to work there, some work experience in a beauty parlor is helpful. Unfortunately I have no experience, so I was only asked one question and we quickly changed the topic to QSFB.

Well that is all for today and I will keep you all updated on my journey to the most magical place on earth!

Good luck to everyone who has applied and have a magical day!
